Poor Print Quality, Dirty Copies, Smudging Lines, Ghosting, Repetitive Marks

HP LASERJET 4200 GHOSTING PROBLEM:

Q:  I have an hp laserjet 4200 ghosting problem that I cannot seem to get rid of.  I have replaced 3 hp laser 4200 fuser assemblies and one of those was an HP OEM 4200 fuser assembly.  I tried replacing the toner cartridge and that did not work either.  The halfway test that I performed showed that the ghosting was not occurring at the toner, so it leads me to believe that there is something going wrong in the fuser assembly

A:  Ghosting problems with the hp laser 4200 is not uncommon and you are certainly more than justified to assume that it has something to do with the fuser assembly.  Check the type of media that you are using.  If the media is a thicker paper type the printer will need to make necessary adjustments.  Those adjustments can only happen if the printer is told what kind of paper it is printing.  Please select either the default paper type in the trays to match the stock that is being used or select the paper type in the printer driver.

HP LASERJET 4200 PRINTING BLURRY

Q:  I have an hp laser 4200 printer printing blurry.  I have been printing with this HP for many years and without incident until recently.  Last week my print outs started to come out blurry looking.  It was as though someone took an eraser to the page and smudged it around making the document look really blurry.  Any suggestions as to why my hp laser 4200 is printing blurry?

A:  Image defects with hp laserjet printers are not only one of the most common problems, but also one of the easiest to diagnose and repair.  Laser printer technology employs a toner cartridge, power supply, laser scanner and fuser assembly to create the image process.  99% of image defect issues are going to be directly related to the function of one or more of the aforementioned.  The first place to start when diagnosing image defects is to do a ½ way test.  This will help determine whether the defect is taking place at the toner cartridge, or if not at the fuser assembly.  Depending on the result of the halfway test take the appropriate actions to fix your hp laserjet 4200 printing blurry.

HP LASER 4200 PRINTING FUZZY TEXT

Q: we have an hp 4200 printing fuzzy text on the page and cannot seem to fix it.  So far we have replaced the toner cartridge and the roller beneath it known as the transfer roller.  I have heard that faulty power supplies can cause the text to become fuzzy as well as worn out rollers.  Is there anyway to check the components that I mentioned?

A:  Well you have so far done half the work by ruling out the toner cartridge as the culprit for causing your hp 4200 fuzzy print problem.  There have been many instances with the fuser bushings going bad and in turn not bonding the toner to the page correctly.  This definitely sounds like the issue, though there is a slight possibility it could be a power supply causing the fuzzy print.  The fuser is a user replaceable part and the best place to start when troubleshooting this problem.  The only practical way of testing the power supply would be to replace it, though this is a repair that requires prior repair knowledge and skill.

HP LASERJET 4200 SMUDGE ON SIDE OF PAGE

Q:  As of about 2 weeks ago our hp laserjet 4200 started leaving a smudge on the page.  It was working just fine one minute and the next it started smudging on the side of the page.  There also appeared to be a grey plastic coming out the back and sometimes with the paper as well.  It also sounds a little different when it is running, almost like it is crunching paper as it goes.  Do you have any suggestions as to what might be causing my hp laser 4200 to smudge the print on the page?

A:  It is common for HP laser 4200 printers to smudge the print on the side of the page.  This happened much more frequently with the first round of 4200 printers to hit the market.  It seemed that they had a slight design flaw with the hp 4200 fuser assembly.  The fuser was a touch off and that would cause the fixing film sleeve.  When the fixing sleeve for the 4200 was torn it would peel off in grey strips as well as cause the print to smudge like you are experiencing.  Simply replace the 4200 fuser assembly and you will be up and running as you should.

HP 4200 REPETITIVE PRINT ON PAGE

Q: We have an hp 4200 printer that is printing repetitive marks on the page.  If you look at each page that is printed out it will make the same mark in the same interval in the same place every time.  I took the toner cartridge out and inspected the inside of the machine with the hopes of uncovering the something that was making the mark, but to no avail.  Is there an appropriate way of trying to diagnose this problem down to a specific area of the printer or part?

A:  Repetitive marks on the page are some of the easiest issues to fix because of their frequency.  In the case of repetitive marks on the page you are most likely looking at a fuser or toner cartridge problem.  Starting with a halfway test will help to determine whether it is a fuser or a toner issue.  After interpreting the halfway test results you will know whether to replace your hp 4200 fuser assembly or your 4200 toner cartridge to clear up the repetitive marks on the page.

HP LASER 4200 DOTS ON THE PAGE

Q:  Currently we have an hp laser 4200 making dots on the page when it prints.  It happens on every page every time and on the same part of the page.

A:  When hp laser 4200 print dots on the page it is typically a toner cartridge problem.  Perform a halfway test.  If the dots are on the page at the toner cartridge then replace the toner.  If the dots are not present at the toner cartridge, replacing your hp laserjet 4200 fuser assembly should do the trick
